Engaging designs create engaged pupils

At School Postcards we help schools communicate their values and objectives in a fun and engaging way. This helps make it easier for children to understand what is expected of them and encourages them to try hard. Our beautiful graphics create a welcoming, friendly and fun learning environment for pupils, and create consistency in communications between home and school.

The children love their school’s new mission statement graphic. The Ivanhoe knight logo was developed by Kathryn at School Postcards  from a design by a pupil at the school.

We design environments that inspire, motivate and create curious, imaginative learners. From reception graphics and signage right through to reward systems and logos, we can help schools build a strong identity.

Consistency in the branding helps generate a feeling of familiarity and security for children. We work with schools to design reward systems that children can really engage with. Our collecting card books can be personalised and have proven extremely popular with children, parents and teachers.

Incorporating our designs into physical rewards, such as certificates, badges and our special collecting card books, creates a strong link between home and school. Pupils have a physical acknowledgement of their achievement to show off to their parents. Parents can better understand what the school is trying to achieve and what behaviours are expected.

Evidence shows that when parents are involved in their children’s education pupils get more out of school and have better attainment. We have had feedback from parents praising our postcards for building better communication and making them feel more involved in what their children are doing at school.

Our creative, personalised reward systems are designed to communicate clear objectives and behaviours for the children to work to in order to receive rewards. This gives them attainable goals that they understand and makes it easier for them to meet those goals. They have the tools and the knowledge to achieve what is required and this motivates them to try hard.

Inside the school we feel it is very important to communicate values clearly in an easy to understand way. Schools with younger children, or children who don’t have English as their first language, particularly benefit from our design-led approach. Those pupils who cannot read well can understand and engage with our fun, child-friendly graphics. It also gives parents and visitors a good understanding of what the school objectives are.

Sometimes children have stresses at home or feel insecure in unfamiliar surroundings. Creating a positive, inspiring environment helps children feel at ease and forget about any stresses outside of school. We want them to feel safe and secure so that they get the most from their learning experience.

Whenever possible we involve pupils in the design process. This increases the benefits to the pupils. They identify with the design more because they were involved in designing it. It also helps them explore their imagination and empowers them to express their opinions.

Involving the pupils in the design process helps give them a deeper understanding of the values and the goals of the school. They can consolidate the message that the school is trying to communicate, and express it in a way that they feel comfortable with. The design will then act as a daily reminder to them of what they can achieve.

Plus, the design process is fun. It is a positive learning experience and a chance for children to work together and develop their communication skills. They have to share their ideas, listen to others and evaluate and explore what does and doesn’t work. Our design workshops play a major role in helping create something that really engages the children and encourages them to work hard.

All of our design work is completely bespoke. We work with head teachers and SLTs to personalise the environment in line with the school’s needs and circumstances.
