Last month we exhibited at Educated Yorkshire (EY16). Attending EY16 gave us the chance to speak with headteachers and senior leadership teams from Yorkshire schools. We believe that by keeping our finger on the pulse we can provide a better service and innovate products that schools actually want.
Thank you
Thank you to everyone that came to see us on stand 75. We know how busy senior education leaders are, so we really do appreciate everyone that came to talk with us. We had some really interesting conversations and made some great new contacts.
Also a big thank you to Jane and David for all their help on the day. Jane has been working with me for over 2 years now, to help me to continue to provide a great service to schools as School Postcards has grown. David (my partner) has been invaluable, both in his insight and knowledge as a primary school teacher and his support.
How tall are you?
We wanted to give people an example of the type of engaging graphics we can design for schools. Delegates (and the other exhibitors) had a great time measuring themselves on our fun educational height chart that we had designed as part of our exhibition stand. It was entertaining to watch people try to alter their height to be as small as an adult male orangutan (136cm) or as tall as Darth Vader (203cm). It was definitely a great talking point as people could see just how small the world’s smallest living man actually is and the annual average rainfall in Leeds (a lot less than you would think!).
Congratulations
Our school postcards have proven to be great tool to help build the home-school connection so we held a prize draw for visitors to our stand to win 500 free bespoke postcards for their school. Congratulations to Sarah Charlesworth from Summerfield Primary School and Diane Potter from Temple Moor High School and Temple Learning Academy. I look forward to working with them in the new year to design a bespoke postcard for each of their schools.
Much more than just design…
School Postcards does much more than just design and EY16 gave us a chance to show schools exactly what we offer and demonstrate the huge benefit of our work in schools. Headteachers loved hearing about how we involve the pupils when we create new designs for schools. It is a great way to engage them in new school initiatives as it gives the children a greater understanding of what the school is trying to do and makes them feel a part of it. Our ideas for school reward and praise systems such as the bespoke badges and collecting card books proved particularly popular.
As we are now based in Leeds, we want to raise our profile with primary schools in Leeds. As EY16 was held in Leeds it gave us a great opportunity to meet more schools from Leeds and Yorkshire. We have found that it is only when we actually meet with schools that they understand the possibilities of what we do and how it can be a great catalyst for many wonderful things in their school.
Creative Collaboration
We regularly work with sign writing company, Visual Impact to create colourful, child friendly graphics for schools so we shared a stand with them to showcase our work both together and as two separate businesses. I designed the graphics for the stand and Visual Impact brought them to life. Their great educational display units were much admired by our stand visitors.
If you want to see any of our school ideas for yourself, then please get in contact and tell us what you are interested in and we’ll send you some samples.
