New school characters

New candle characters were designed in the school colours

Holy Trinity Primary School wanted to develop a child-friendly, engaging brand image to guide and encourage their pupils to get the most out of their education during their time at the school. They asked us to create a female and male candle character to complement their school motto – “Lighting the way to a brighter future”.

The children got involved in the design project by naming the new characters. The school set up voting booths for the children to cast their vote and experience democracy in action. The candle mascots have been named ‘Blaze’ and ‘Lightening’.

The chosen candle characters were drawn in a number of different positions to highlight key messages to the children. We produced a number of designs for the school starring the new characters, such as praise stickers, the Headteacher’s lunch invitations and a set of attendance certificates. We designed a yearbook and bespoke A5 school planners tailored to the school’s exact requirements.

The final stage of the project involved illustrating and installing warm, welcoming window graphics in the reception area of the school starring the school’s new characters – Blaze and Lightening.

As a primary school, we wanted to make our school visibly child friendly. Right from the outset, Kathryn was full of enthusiasm and ideas and embraced the ethos of the school in her design focus. The candle mascots she created for us were beyond our expectations and the smiles on the children’s faces when we unveiled them were magical. They loved voting for their names in our mock election, complete with polling booths! The window graphic at our school entrance is a real eye catcher and creates such a warm and welcoming feel as you approach the school. Communication was fantastic, and whenever little ‘tweaks’ were needed they were done immediately and brilliantly. All in all, a fantastic experience from beginning to end.
